Mt Kenya East political caucus chairman Lenny Kivuti, Ex-Senate Majority Leader, Kindiki and Chuka-Igamba-Ng’ombe Member of Parliament, Muthomi Njuki hailed Cecily’s leadership capabilities and urged the residents to vote for her.
The leaders said that she has a wealth of experience, was one of the most trusted by President Kenyatta and has frequently been consulted on various matters. Mr Kivuti said that Cecily has performed well as a Member of Parliament and has developed her constituency hence she should be taken to the next level.
Prof. Kindiki’s opinion said that she could be relied upon to get a solution in the face of a crisis. However, this had not gone down well with Governor Martin Wambora who claimed that Mbarire should not be voted in to replace him as she was married outside the county, Teso County. He said voting for her as the county governor would see their resources lost.
In March 2016, Wambora said that if elected as governor Cecily would direct the county’s wealth to Teso where her husband’s come from. He further claimed that she had surrendered her rights of being and indigenous resident after her marriage to an outsider. She fired back terming the his statements as petty, selfish and desperate and immature.
