A Diploma in Human Resource Management (HRM) in Kenya prepares students to help organisations recruit employees, manage personnel records, support payroll and training, and comply with workplace policies. Human resource officers also play a part in employee wellbeing, workplace communication and performance management. Learners can pursue a recognised diploma or continue toward professional HR qualifications.
Entry requirements for the HRM diploma
The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) lists the HRMPEB Diploma in Human Resource Management at Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) Level 6. Its stated minimum entry requirement is KCSE mean grade C− or an accepted Level 5 qualification. The related HRM craft certificate is Level 5, with a stated KCSE grade D or accepted Level 4 qualification.
A university or another examining body’s diploma may use different admission requirements. Applicants should check the exact programme and any subject-grade requirements before applying.

Colleges and universities to consider
Students can investigate recognised HRM training routes at institutions appearing in the relevant regulators’ directories. Examples include:
- Kabete National Polytechnic: appears in the TVET Authority’s course directory with Human Resource Management at Level 6, and in HRMPEB’s training-institution register for relevant HR qualifications.
- St. Paul’s University: listed in TVETA’s course catalogue for Human Resource Management at Level 6; confirm the particular campus, intake and award.
- College of Human Resource Management: HRMPEB lists its branches among accredited providers for competency-based and CHRP pathways.
- Kenya Institute of Management: appears in the HRMPEB register for CHRP training and offers management-related learning programmes.
- Other licensed national polytechnics and colleges: check the exact institution and campus using TVETA’s current register and course directory.
An institution’s approval for the Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) programme does not automatically confirm approval for a particular diploma. Verify both the institution and the qualification being awarded.
HR diploma versus CHRP
A Level 6 HR diploma is not the same as CHRP. KNQA lists Certified Human Resource Professional at Level 7 with a general entry requirement of KCSE C+ or an accepted Level 6 qualification. HRMPEB provides the relevant qualification and examination pathways. Students wishing to practise in a regulated professional capacity should also check the Institute of Human Resource Management’s current membership and professional requirements.
Duration, fees and industrial attachment
Programme duration depends on whether the student follows a modular, competency-based or semester programme and whether a workplace attachment is required. Fees may include admission, tuition, assessment, materials, examination registration and fieldwork. Ask each college for the full number of terms, the current intake calendar, the awarding body and an itemised fee schedule.
