Evelyn Wanjiru whose full name is Evelyn Wanjiru Agundabweni, is a Kenyan gospel singer,a worship leader, music director, songwriter, hostess of the annual event ‘Praise Atmosphere’ and co-founder of Bwenieve production. Evelyn is popularly known for her hit songs ‘Mungu Mkuu,’ ‘Celebrate,’ ‘Jehovah Elohim,’ ‘Waweza,’ ‘Hossana,’ ‘Nikufahamu’ and ‘Tulia.’

Evelyn was born on 6th May, 1989.

Education

Evelyn attended St. Mary’s Girls Primary for her primary education and later joined Langalanga Secondary for her secondary education. In Evelyn’s early education, she was deeply involved in drama and the school choir, presaging her later success. Evelyn later joined Tears Group for a course in music in Nakuru before further benefiting from the government of Kenya at the 2010 Talent Academy at Kabarak University Nakuru.

Husband

Wanjiru got married to Agundabweni Akweyu who is music producer from Nigerian. Renown gospel singer Wanjiru has opened up about her struggle to have a child. Evelyn who hit the gospel world with her awardaward-winning song ‘waweza’ and ‘Tulia’ said she has been praying for a child for the last five years in marriage.

On September 10, 2017, speaking in a church service in Uthiru during worship service she was invited as a guest said she together with her husband beliving in God for a gift of a child. Evelyn further narrated a touching story of how her mother struggled to bring her up after the death of her dad. She said that her mother used to sell charcoal and do odd jobs to bring food on the table but when her story changed her mother’s story also changed.

Family

Wanjiru is the fourth born of Helen Muhonja and Crispin Kinyua in a family of five children.

After her early successes in church and school festivals, commercial success came her way when music producer Agundabweni Akweyu noted Wanjiru’s talent. The two started Bwenieve Productions, a music recording studio where she recorded her first album ‘Mazingira,’ that was later re-branded as ‘Waweza.’ The album resulted in increased public awareness and accolades, most notably for Evelyn’s songs Waweza and Hossana. The song Waweza was nominated as Worship Song and her as New Artist of the Year for the 2012 Groove Awards.
