KCSE Results: How to Check Online, Get Results Slips and Contact KNEC

Need your KCSE examination results? The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) provides an official online results service. This guide explains how to check released results, collect your examination result slip and request help. It replaces outdated 2023-only instructions and unverified SMS charges from the original article.

Which KCSE results have been released?

As of October 27, 2026, the most recent KCSE results officially released are those for the 2025 KCSE examination, announced by the Ministry of Education on January 9, 2026. The 2026 examination results have not yet been announced. An examination year and the calendar year in which results are released are not necessarily the same.

The Ministry reported 993,226 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examination, with 270,715 candidates attaining a mean grade of C+ or above. For the latest official release date, timetable, results or circular, visit KNEC rather than relying on an old article headline.

How to check KCSE results online

  • Visit the official KNEC results portal.
  • Enter your KCSE index number exactly as registered.
  • Enter one of your registered names as required by the portal.
  • Follow any privacy or access confirmation instructions, and select View your results.
  • Check the displayed subject grades and mean grade. If you encounter an error or the portal is temporarily unavailable, retry later or contact your former school.

These steps are based on KNEC’s official FAQ and the government’s 2025 KCSE announcement. The results portal may not serve every historical examination year indefinitely; follow the link and instructions displayed by KNEC for the relevant cohort. Do not enter index numbers and personal information into unofficial websites or paid WhatsApp groups.

Can I receive KCSE results by SMS?

An older version of this article recommended sending a text message to shortcode 20076 and quoted an SMS charge of KSh 25. Those instructions refer to a historical service and have not been verified as a current KNEC method. Use KNEC’s official online portal as your first option. Only follow an SMS short code if KNEC publishes it for the specific examination year.

Where to get the official KCSE result slip and certificate

KNEC sends examination centres their results printouts and individual result slips. The official result slip should be collected from the school or examination centre where you sat the examination. A screen image or printout from an online portal is not necessarily a substitute for an institution-issued document or your final KCSE certificate.

For a lost or damaged certificate, KNEC describes a certification letter process and the Query Management Information System (QMIS). Check the current eligibility and documentation rules directly with KNEC.

How to report missing, withheld or incorrect KCSE results

  • Check that your index number, registered name and examination year are correct.
  • Notify your former headteacher or examination centre about missing results, a misspelt name, subject discrepancies or an incorrect school code.
  • Ask the examination centre to raise the matter with KNEC within the applicable review deadline.
  • Keep copies of your admission card, identification and results slip; submit sensitive information only through the official process.

Do not assume that no examination results were cancelled or withheld in a particular year. Any such finding must be supported by the official KNEC and Ministry of Education report for that year. The old article’s blanket statement about 2023 cancellations has been removed.

KCSE timetables and KNEC contacts

Examination timetables are published by KNEC for the relevant year. Never use an old 2016 PDF as the official 2026 timetable. Visit KNEC’s official website for current examination notices, contacts, results circulars and candidate services. The council’s general postal address is P.O. Box 73598-00200, Nairobi, Kenya; confirm current telephone contacts on its website.
