Kipchumba Murkomen whose full name is Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen is a Kenyan lawyer and a current sitting Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County. In 2013, Murkomen was elected Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet County on a URP ticket, winning against the late Nicholas Biwott among other veteran politicians. In 2017, Murkomen was re-elected on a Jubilee ticket, beating former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo. Furthermore, he was the Majority Leader of the Senate House. He is also one of the fore-founders of the United Republican Party (URP), a Jubilee subsidiary.

Primary and secondary education’s details are not available. He, however, started his tertiary education at the University of Nairobi pursuing a Bachelors’s Degree in Law. Murkomen also went a notch higher and joined the American University Washington College of Law in America where the Lawyer also graduated. Driven by his passion in the field, Murkomen further joined the University of Pretoria in South Africa where he graduated.

Politics

He started having an interest in politics at a young age since he was still in high school. Kipchumba was first elected as the dining hall captain at his high school. Later, he joined the University of Nairobi and got elected as the first second year student to hold the chairman’s position of Kenya Law Society. This was the era when the student union had been banned hence becoming a key instrument in reforming it.

Kipchumba became a member of the United Republican Party (URP) in 2012. He made a coalition with TNA to form the Jubilee Alliance in February, 2013. In March 2013, he was elected the Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet County

He is also a Lecturer at the Catholic University of East Africa, Moi University, and the University of Nairobi, besides politics.
