Millie Odhiambo whose full name is Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona is a Kenyan politician and trained as a lawyer. Millie has been a member of parliament since 2008. At first she was nominated and later elected as a Member of Mbita Constituency, currently known as Suba North Constituency.

She attended Homa Bay Primary School where she passed her KCPE and secured a place at St. Francis Girls Secondary School and Limuru Girls High School before she joined the University of Nairobi in 1986 and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1990. She later went to the United States, Sweden and Italy for further study.

Marriage

Millie got married to Magugu Mabona of Zimbabwe in 2006. Their first meeting was online and now have a long-distance relationship.

Millie Odhiambo is a stepmother to Magugu Mabona’s daughter called Lebo, who stays in Botswana. She has been vocal about what she went through growing up with uterine fibroids, which led to both painful menstrual cycles and hard to conceive children.

Family

She is a daughter of Harrison Odhiambo and Damaris Auma Odhiambo. Millie is the fourth born in a family of eight. In 1973, her father Harrison died in a boating accident, a moment that Millie says helped spur her interest in politics.

Childless

Member of Parliament Hon. Millie made public her plans of ending her childlessness and having a baby when she turns 53. Emotionally, she went ahead to show gratitude to God for giving her the ability to love children who are not hers.

Millie’s childlessness does not affect her that much. God gave her a special ability to love children who are not hers. So she brought the law courtesy of their intervention. She revealed that she was however toying with the idea of having a child when she attains 53 or 55 years. Sara did it at the age of 100 anyway.

Career

Odhiambo began her career in the attorney general’s office practicing civil litigation before moving on to human rights law, focusing on women and children. She served as chairperson of Coalition on Violence Against Women-Kenya in 1999. From 2000 to 2008 she was the founder and director of the CRADLE Children’s Foundation, an organization working to improve rights of children in the legal system.

She was elected as an ODM member in the 2013 Kenyan general election. Since taking her seat in Parliament, Kenyan media personalities have described her as controversial and outspoken.
