MP Isaac Mwaura disclosed having used Sh29 million in the Jubilee nominations for Ruiru MP, which he lost to Simon King’ara, where he garnered 4,632 votes while King’ara got 10,900 votes.

Isaac Mwaura said during an interview on citizen TV that he used a lot of money and that his competitors might have used even more. Mwaura noted that running for office is very expensive in this country and that aspirants cannot win elections without money.

“Some of the money was spent in kind; things I have been donating and programmes I have been running,” he said. “I will not lie to Kenyans…by the end of last year, I had spent about Sh20 million.”

While conceding defeat, Mwaura described his bid for a high level political office as a debut for a youthful aspirant living with albinism.

“This has its own challenges. It is never easy but someone had to do it. Someone had to be the first to pay the price and create a pathway of possibilities,” he said.

Mwaura’s campaigns were not without chaos. Pictures posted on Facebook showed the MP with a bruised left ear and the windows of his four-wheel drive car shattered, with some reports indicating that he suffered a gunshot wound,  claims that Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira dismissed saying nobody used guns during the fracas.
