NASA and IEBC warned over plans to threaten national security. NASA is planning on setting up a parallel tallying center on August 8th for the election, a plan that IEBC initially branded illegal and unconstitutional. However, after holding a meeting with NASA co-leaders, IEBC allowed the parties to have their center plans that are now being considered a threat against national security. IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, however warned them that only IEBC will announce the final results much as political parties will be tallying too.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery however vowed not to allow that to happen.

“I will not allow such an arrangement as long as I am in charge of national security,” said Nkaissery as quoted on Citizen TV on Sunday, April 9.

IEBC granted political parties permission to set up parallel tallying centers to monitor the upcoming election. The NASA co-leaders; Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula met with Chebukati on Thursday, April 6 at Lilian Towers in Nairobi to discuss the matter. Hours later, Chebukati made the announcement favoring political parties.
