T.D. Jakes whose full names are Thomas Dexter Jakes Sr. is the bishop of The Potters House, which is a non- denominational American megachurch. He is also an author and a film maker.

He was born on 9th June, 1957 in South Charleston, West Virginia and was brought up in Vandalia, West Virginia. His father Ernest, Sr. was a businessman and entrepreneur while his mother Odith was an educator. He was the youngest in a family of three children. His father died from kidney failure in the year 1973.
Marriage
He married Serita Jamison in the year 1981. Jakes is a devoted husband to Serita Jakes whom she describes as a beautiful wife, best friend, mother, grandmother and a loving wife. Serita serves as the executive director for The Potter’s House Women’s Ministries and also runs Serita Jakes Home, which is a thoughtfully-designed collection of candles and home décor accent pieces. The two support each other in the ministry and as they persue their passion.

T.D Jakes together with his wife Serita Jakes are blessed with five children who are all grown up. Their children include Sarah Jakes, Cora Jakes-Coleman, Thomas Jakes, Jr., Jermaine Jakes, and Jamar Jakes.
Ministry
T.D Jakes began his ministry as a pastor at Greater Emanuel Temple of Faith, which is a church in West Virginia in the year 1982, while he was 23 years old. The church had ten members. He then moved to ‘Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies’ in the year 1988 which was founded by Bishop Sherman Watkins. He thereafter moved to South Charleston, West Virginia, where his congregation increased to 300.
In the year 1995, he established “TDJ Enterprises” where he publishes his books and produces his films.
He then founded his current church ‘The Potters House’ in Dallas, Texas in the year 1996. The Potters House is sitted on a 34-acre hilltop campus and features a 5,000-seat auditorium, as well as offices for employees and staff. The church ministers to more than 30,000 members.
In the year 2016, Jakes launched the TD Jakes show, which is a daytime talk show ehere he helps his guests lead more empowering lives through candid conversations.
He was awarded B.A. degree in biblical studies in 1985, by Friends International Christian University and his M.A. degree in biblical studies in 1990, and his D.Min. in the year 1995.

In the year 2003, his album ‘A Wing and a Prayer’ won the “Best Gospel or Chorus Album” at the 46th Grammy Awards.
He was named among America’s “Top 10 Religious Leaders.” by PBS Religion and Ethics Newsweekly.
He was named “America’s Treasure” by Oprah Winfrey.
