Aisha once served as Takangu KANU youth leader and was elected as Takangu Municipality councilor two times that’s between 1997 and 2007. Opposition leader Raila Odinga frequently preferred her to Mekatilli Wa Menza, who is well known as freedom fighter because of her firmness, fearless nature and confidence. In 2013, she was elected Kilifi woman representative on the Orange Democratic Movement party. In 2017, Jumwa was elected Malindi Township MP in the hotly contested election on the ODM party ticket.

She is now a main coastal politician whose influence will play a critical part in who becomes the next president in 2022. In what political analysts say is a blow to the Raila Odinga should he choose to compete in the 2022 general election, Jumwa has proclaimed support for DP Ruto for president.

Since 2015, she has wanted to run for governor and she says that the vision is closer to reality. It is the time to take a bigger responsibility for the Kilifi’s people. She said that she was the first woman to be elected under the new Constitution as the Woman MP of Kilifi, then she shifted the goalpost to a single constituency and won as well. She feels she has something big to offer, thus her resolve.

The current Governor Kingi has not said whom he will support or give political direction to the county and which party to support. Some insiders say whomever the governor supports will become the next governor.
