Stephen Otieno popularly known as Stivo Simple Boy is a Kenyan rapper, musician and songwriter. He made the headlines with the song ‘Mihadarati’ and he got his name simple boy as a result of his simple style of music which anyone can sing along. Stevo’s looks and innocence have attracted lots of cyber bullies from Kenyans calling him monkey and making him the center of memes to international comedian Lil Duval posting on his Instagram that if the alien emoji was a man, then it would look like him.

Stivo is jovial and optimistic about life, despite the mockery, never letting it depress him. Simple Boy even crafted the famous saying ‘it hurts but you have to get used to it’.

Age

Simple Boy was born in 1990 and he is the second last born in a family of eight children and an elder to his twin sister.

Education

Stephen Otieno studied in Nyanza from Nursery school to class seven. His family then moved to Nairobi at a place called Kibera, where he finished his class eight. Lack of school fees prevented him from proceeding with education.

Marriage

He is neither married nor in a relationship. Stivo is waiting for the right lady at the right time.

Career

In 2019, his music became popular after the release of hit song ‘mihadarati’ which became a blockbuster. He has been in the music industry for over a decade.

Stivo the singer recalls life before fame, in an interview with Word, that before mihadarati song came out, he had worked for ten years while releasing songs and rehearsing when it comes to music. He has been working as a ‘mjengo guy’ and still doing it to get his daily bread. He has learnt that nothing comes easier, you need to work so hard to get where you want to be.

Attending rehearsals organized by Kibera Creative Arts (KiCA), has nourished his music talent. In 2015, Simple Boy recorded his first song ‘Ukimwi’ to create awareness about HIV/AIDS, Mihadarati song warns youths against the dangers of abusing drugs, Ndoa song advising people to respect the institution of marriage, Ufisadi song the message to stop corruption, ‘I lift him higher ft Scheneider Shanny’ song is about, thanking God for everything and Inauma ft Byzoo the Baddest song explaining challenges in life that we have to get used to.
