Garissa High School: History, Admissions, Fees and Contacts

Garissa High School is a national boys’ secondary school in Garissa County and one of the region’s longstanding educational institutions. The school began through local community efforts and has expanded considerably since its foundation.

Founding and development

According to the official school history, it was established in 1969 through a community harambee initiative as a single-stream school. It introduced advanced-level arts classes in 1978, expanded to two streams in 1986 and three in 1990, and was elevated to national-school status in 2012. The first national-school cohort sat KCSE in 2015.

Mission and activities

The school’s published mission focuses on quality education, talent development and the formation of responsible citizens. Students engage in classroom instruction as well as co-curricular programmes and leadership activities.

Admissions and subject pathways

Use the Ministry of Education’s current placement procedures and obtain authorised joining letters. Families should verify subject pathways and combinations, boarding provisions and school-specific reporting requirements for the intended academic year.

Fees and results

Tuition, boarding and other charges may vary by year. Request a current approved schedule and payment reference from the school. KCSE figures are meaningful only when tied to a specific examination year and authenticated source.
