Joe Mucheru whose full name is Joseph Wakaba Mucheru, is the current Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications. Mucheru is a former Google Sub-Sahara Africa Lead based in the Google Nairobi office. Mucheru was Google’s first Sub-Saharan employee and was key to setting up of Googles presence in Africa since 2007. Mucheru worked at Wananchi Online, a company he co-founded in 1999, in various roles at the company including Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer before joining Google.

He got married to his beautiful wife, Aida Wambui Kamau where late rumours say that she filed a divorce against ICT Cabinet Secretary Mucheru who accused him of being cruel to her for 10 years.
He started his primary education at Nairobi Primary from 1977 to 1982 and later went to Lenana School from 1983 to 1988 for his A-level education. Upon completion, he pursued BSc. (Hons) in Economics & Computer Science from City University London between 1989 and 1993.
In 2008, Mucheru attended the Business Executive Programme from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He was awarded the Moran of the order of the burning spear in December 2010 by the President Mwai Kibaki. Mucheru is a member of Africa Leadership Network, The National Prayer Breakfast, and the East African Business Summit.
Joe Mucheru comes from a family of five siblings, and they include Liza Mucheru Wisner, Annie Garza, Njeri Mucheru, Samuel Gichimu and Muniu Mucheru.
From 1997 to 1999, he worked as a Webmaster, Technical and Product Development, Management, Internet Solutions (IS) (Formally Interconnect Limited). From December 1999 to December 2004, Mucheru was a Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Wananchi Online. From January 2005 to May 2006, he worked as a Strategy and Business Development Director at Wananchi Online and between June 2006 and April 2007, as a Chief Executive Officer at Wananchi Online. From July 1998 to July 2007, he was a Chairman/director at Telecommunication Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK).
Mucheru joined office Lead East Africa, Google Kenya, from June 2007 to May 2009 and Regional Lead, Sub Saharan Africa, Google Inc, from April 2009 to April 2012. He was a Google Sub Saharan Africa Ambassador and East Africa Lead from April 2012 to March 2014.
In 2013, he became a Director UAP Investments until 2015 and from February 2014 to December 2015, Director at BitPesa. Again from April 2014 to December 2015 Joe was Google Sub- Saharan Africa Ambassador and energy Access and Investment Regional Lead Africa. He was also a director at afb- all you can be from April 2015 to December 2015. Since January 2014 working in Advisory Foundation Academy as Advisory Board Member and Since January 2015 as a director at Give Directly. In December 2015, he was appointed Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology.
Mucheru declared his wealth during vetting as Ksh. 500 million with a deferred income of Ksh. 267 million.
