Phyllis Mbuthia is a Kenyan vernacular gospel musician and Groove Award Winner who was born and grew up in Bahati, Nakuru County. The hit song ‘Githi Tiwa Ngai’ made Phyllis known to many Kikuyu people.

She attended Kanorera Primary school and later joined Kinare Primary School in Dunduri. She later went to Mukeu in Kiambogo Primary School and did her KCPE exam in Victoria Academy where she got good marks. In her secondary education, she attended Menengai High School and passed her KCSE well giving her an opportunity to join Kenyatta University and graduated in 2016.

In her career, she started Writing songs while in class five. She came up with the song ‘Tiga Niwe’ in 2013. Besides having no money, resources or knowledge of any producer, Phyllis Mbuthia came across a CD seller who gave her information about his brother who was an artist. She used HELB Loan to pay for her first song. Fortunately, her song through Whatsapp came to reach a Media Personality Muchina who thought it nice and decided to air it nine months after it was released. She was able to release more songs after the persuasion of Muchina.
