James Wambura Nyikal is a Kenyan politician and a current Member of Parliament as well as a member of the health commission and of its finance commission. James Nyikal is a Pediatrician or neonatologist and a Medical Scholar by profession. James Nyikal graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi in 1977. In 1970, James Nyikal attended Nakuru High School for his East Africa Advanced Certificate of Education (EAACE) – ‘A’ Level Certificate. From 1972 to 1966, James Nyikal joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MbChB). Between 1981 and 1994, he attended the University of Nairobi to study a Master of Medicine (M.MED) in Pediatrics & Child Health. In 1990 until 1992, went to Monash Medical Center in Australia for a Fellowship in Newborn Medicine.

From 1990 to 1992, James Nyikal got his first job at New Born Emergency Transport Services and Neonatal Intensive Care as a Fellow and Registrar. In 1996, James Nyikal was employed at the University of Nairobi as a Lecturer in Department of Pediatrics and Child Health and stayed there for a year. Between 1997 and 2003, he worked at Kenya Medical Association as a Chairperson. In 2003, he went to the Ministry of Health as a Director of Medical Services where he worked till 2008. From 2004 and 2008, he was in Executive Board of World Health Organization as a Member and in April 2008, worked at Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation as a Permanent Secretary. In October 2008 till August 2012, he was employed at Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development as a Permanent Secretary. In March 2013, James Nyikal joined the Kenya National Assembly as a Member of Parliament for Seme Constituency.
